Balance vs. Imbalance
“When in balance, we seek more balance; When out of balance, we crave things that bring more imbalance.”
One of my teachers, Rod Stryker, said something like that to us the other day. My imbalanced self is full of frenetic doing, thinking, strategizing (worry), full of “you gotta fight for your right to party!” It wants seemingly easy fixes my balanced self knows don’t work — self-soothing, worry/strategizing, rigidly taking control, succumbing to chaos.
My balanced self is at peace with what is, my current role, my choice to prioritize health, love, service, and vitality. My balanced self is willing to feel the discomfort of making choices and taking actions that sometimes feel “less fun” short term, but bring more peace, better relationships, and ultimately, a more sustainable, richer kind of joy for myself and those around me.
Imbalance thinks that sounds like a bad deal. Balance knows it’s the best deal evah. So today, this weekend, I’m turning my rudder towards balance. Fighting for my right to get quiet and still enough, for long enough, to hear what my balanced self needs and listen to that. I’m gonna keep going.
