Sneakers Everywhere/Italy Awesome
Every man, woman, and child, in all of Europe, is wearing sneakers. Or equivalently comfy shoes. Of course, it’s day one and I’ve been only in one airport and daytime touring in perhaps the most touristy of tourist spots. And even there. I saw an Italian man wearing brown leather shoes with crisp blue slacks, dress shirt, and good sunglasses. He stood out as unobtainably chic amongst the shorts-t’s-crocs crowd. I also saw one 20-something woman in a fitted red sundress with strappy leather-soled sandals, and she looked like a star.
Kiki, Ax, and I walked for 2 hours this morning after breakfast and will walk for at least another 2 this afternoon and I will wear sneakers with my black flowy sundress and Italy will survive.
It’s survived far worse than the summer tourist tsunami and we’re doing our part stimulating the economy as best we can. Italy is awesome. It’s hotter than I anticipated, and I anticipated it would be hot. It’s more gorgeous than I remembered, and I remembered it being pretty stunning. It’s early in the season so the locals don’t seem too weary yet. Kiki is enjoying charming everyone she encounters with her lovely Italian and talking to Ax about art. Ax is enjoying gelato. I’m enjoying them enjoying. So far so good. I’m gonna keep going.
