Show Up Anyway

So I was listening to this talk by my friend Dougie and the message of it was basically, “We gotta get to work.” Well, because he’s fairly worked out what he actually said was that one day he didn’t want to go to work and he got a message to show up  anyway.

And so he did show up  and for him it turned out better that he did, like much much better, rather than doing his plan which was to retreat, isolate, and wait to feel or be better before getting to work sub-optimal as he was, slightly unwound, imperfect, emotional, all the stuff.

The showing up got Dougie in the flow and made the magic unfold, like magic, like that.  That’s how it worked for him and I know that’s how it works for me.

Even so, I am still periodically attracted to the wait-for-the-magic before showing up method, the wait-and-see method. That soft hand of kindness method that says, “Dear sweetie you’re tired take a rest you don’t have to do anything you don’t want to do.” Lately though I’ve been listening more to that firm hand of kindness that says, “Ok, you’re not on your A game, get to work anyway and see what happens.”

And what is the work?  That’s evolving and revealing itself too — for me today it’s feeling something like loving myself as I am and you as you are while I go about taking care of what’s needed.  I’m gonna keep going.
