Ground, Ground, Ground

I’m feeling the pull of the  high vibe season from Thanksgiving to New Year’s big time.  It’s like every day is a new onslaught of thoughts of things to buy and events to attend that won’t increase my joy or value more than taking a walk with a friend, volunteering, or reading a book.  Or rather, for me, just me at this point, the big holly jolly scene isn’t part of the solution to seasonal darkness and malaise.

What is working for me, this year, is checking in daily with a friend or two, re-invigorating my morning and evening prayer and meditation routine, keeping my nutrition clean and healthy, stretching daily, and getting to bed on time.

Essentially, I’m doubling-down on my mental and physical machine maintenance in the face of a season that feels like it’s pulling me away from that.  Chop wood, carry water.

So I’m choosing to stay on the ground, and I’ll foray out for special things that really feel appealing, but not for ones that don’t.

And I’ll know the difference better because I’m maintaining my machine one day at a time.  And I have faith, I have experience, that bit by bit, day by day, focusing on this kind of stuff, daily maintenance, the bigger stuff out there all becomes lighter and easier to co-exist with.  I’m gonna keep going.
