Ax Joy-Reads!!

If I needed proof that stuff happens without my efforting it, here it is:  Our son is reading for pleasure — with gusto and focus and zoned-out satisfaction at a level similar to that which he brings to building Lego.

I have done nothing.  Except NOT force him to have reading time or get on him about why why why doesn’t he read more?

Plus we’ve sent him to school where his amazing teachers have actually done all the work of teaching him to read.  Plus he’s done the work of learning.

But I am gonna take credit for the NOT doing I’ve done.  Haven’t been a book-pusher, haven’t been a “Why? Why? Why?” nagger, plus also have been willing to read and re-read the Same Exact Charlie Brown anthology perhaps twelve, maybe fifteen times.  And it’s a long book.  He has it memorized.

I talked to my friend Liz the other day and her daughter Portia Favolosa is learning Korean AND Japanese AND Mandarin.  I did have a quick moment when I heard that, and then it passed and I was grateful to be doing what I’m doing, being who I’m being, and allowing Ax to do that too, as best I can.  I’m gonna keep going.
