Black Leggings, Weird Hat

As a young girl Halloween was the opportunity to dress up as a ballerina, a princess, or a fairy princess.  Very similar looks. As I got older, my Halloween M.O. shifted to sexy vampire, sexy witch, or sexy devil. As a mom, I switched to nondenominational kooky, last-minute shopping my closet for a mish-mosh of old looks turned costume.  And now, for the last several years, it’s been mom-in-black leggings with weird hat.  There are some moms (and dads) on the trick-or-treat circuit who really shine on Halloween.  I’m not one of them.  Somehow I’ve repeatedly been surprised that I didn’t bother to do what it takes to get a real costume together.  But not this year.  This year I knew I was gonna be a mom in black leggings and a weird hat, and I’m even looking forward to showing up as a mom in black leggings and a weird hat. It’s not failure, it’s surrender — and I’m reveling in it!  Let the good times roll!  I’m gonna keep going.
