Jan 1 is for Amateurs
Back when I was a quasi-club kid the big nights were Thursday, maybe Tuesday. Also Monday. Friday and Saturday nights were for amateurs, stiffs who wanted to feel rested or something on weekdays. January resolution-making is like the Saturday night of clubbing — it’s not the best time for actual embarking on transformation and renewal. It’s a better time, to me, for giving one last stab at keeping going with the same old flawed-yet-functional modus operandi. January, for me, is breakfast, lunch, dinner, sleep, do what it takes to not blow my life up while re-stabilizing post-holiday season. Hang on time, one day at a time.
Doesn’t have to be miserable, but it’s not the best time for me to have super-high expectations for a wholesale revitalization new initiative new diet new writing exercise meditation women’s circle food sharing commune-establishing investment discussion book club routine either. No. Get my same number of sub-optimal yet better than nothing steps in, try to avoid processed sugar.
On January 21, or February 7, that’s when the real New Year will start for me. That’s when it will be perhaps time to come out and play in reality and get some old stuff out and some new stuff in. Until then — I’m gonna keep going!
