Livin La Vida Lockdown

Happy day everyone! The roller coaster corona coaster is up for me today (yayyyy!) for no particular reason but I’m gonna enjoy it.  Even though and despite and in the face of. Yup.

My bubble is pimped enough to be comfy, my body is getting the minimal stretching and moving it needs to be relatively pain-free, and our mortgage is paid for this month.  We all still like each other and constant coexistence is getting easier.  Or at least not harder.

Life, my life, is objectively awesome and I’m gonna  enjoy it while I’m still here.

There are a lot of unknowns I’ve been trying to wrangle and they are still unknown.  There are a lot of inequities and systemic problems I’ve been trying to wrangle and they still exist.

But in all this fixing and solving and strategizing I kinda back-burnered relaxing and enjoying what there is to be enjoyed.

That stops now.  There are silver linings in our new world.  For one thing, I love that most of my daily events can be attended in a bathrobe. For some people I get that getting dressed and put together is somehow related to feeling good and in the world, but for me taking a zoom meeting at 4pm in a bathrobe feels super-cool.  Kinda like wearing a smoking jacket or being Hugh Hefner-esque.  And we’re saving the environment with less laundry.  So plusses all around.

I also am enjoying the increased availability of my East Coast family for phone and video visits.  Before, when we were all running around all day, the time difference made it harder to coordinate.

Now I’ve been talking to family most days and it’s lovely to be more connected that way even though we missed our in-person summer visit for the first time ever this year.  We got through it, we will get through all of it, and there will be next year.  Or the next.

I remember how during past disasters and evacuations I felt like everyone else was doing a better job of managing the situation.  Like, phooey those people evacuated to Hawaii and oh look those people are baking gluten-free delicacies and delivering them to the elderly! And I’m just trying to find my headset, again, and remembering to eat breakfast at noon.

This time I’m not comparing.  We are doing it this way, our way, and it’s perfect for us.  We haven’t gotten sick, we haven’t killed anyone, and we get to contribute to others as we can from our bubble. It’s a good gig and I’m grateful for it.  I’m gonna keep going.
