Remember

Thank you soldiers and soldiers’ families and friends who’ve sacrificed for me and my family and friends.  Thank you. In the car coming home from Big Sur yesterday I heard Ax ask his father, “Why is there war?”  One of those out-of-nowhere questions kids throw when they still think their parents know everything.

I probably would have answered, “I don’t know.” Or something equally unsatisfying.  Mike said something else, I don’t remember what and maybe Ax doesn’t either.

But he tried to answer in a way that a six-year-old would understand.  But I don’t understand, not really.    I love the soldiers.  And I can imagine a world where we can all co-exist without violence.  I’m gonna keep going.
